Construction Updates for downtown businesses

2015 Downtown construction awarded to Strata Corporation
Post Date: Apr 17 2015
Underground utility work and road construction is anticipated to begin this spring downtown, as the Economic Development Administration (EDA) recently concurred with the City of Minot’s contract award for the 2015 phase of the Downtown Infrastructure Improvements Project to Strata Corporation.

“Over the next six months, we’ll be improving the underground infrastructure and the street and sidewalks within the public right-of-way along Central Avenue, 1st Avenue Southeast, Front Street and other streets in the northeast quadrant of downtown,” said Lance Meyer, city engineer for the City of Minot. “We are looking forward to having new concrete-paved streets, upgraded water, sanitary sewer and storm sewer pipes as well as new sidewalks and street lighting. This will be a huge improvement to current conditions downtown.”

Strata Corporation is headquartered in Grand Forks, N.D., with a regional office in Minot. Further details on specific construction schedules will be made available to the downtown residents and businesses, as well as the general public, as that information is finalized. This information will be discussed in early May at a pre-construction meeting.

During the three construction seasons, the project will replace miles of water, sanitary sewer and storm sewer pipes, concrete paved streets, curb and gutter, sidewalks, and street lighting within roughly 26 city blocks of Downtown Minot.

Phase 1 (2015): Construction is planned in the following locations: on Central Avenue between Broadway and Third Street NE; on First Avenue SE between First Street SE and Front Street; on Second Street SE between First and Third Avenue SE; and on the west side of Third Street SE between the Canadian Pacific railroad tracks and Third Avenue SE. There will also be work done along Front Street, Second Avenue SE, First Street NW, and on First Street SE from First Avenue SE to one block north of Central Avenue.

Construction information will be provided through the website, www.downtownminotisopen.com. You can also contact the public information team for the project at 857-7205, and ask for Mark Lyman or Bryan Obenchain.
