Construction Updates for downtown businesses

All roads open in downtown, as 3-year project is substantially complete
Post Date: Sep 21 2017
All streets and avenues are open downtown, as the final phase of the three-year project hit substantial completion in southwest downtown early the morning of September 21. The Downtown Infrastructure Improvements Project included replacing miles of water, sanitary sewer and storm sewer pipes, concrete paved street, curb and gutters, sidewalks, and street lighting within roughly 26 city blocks in Downtown Minot.

“The last phase of this project was ahead of schedule, so we are pleased to be finishing the overall project about a month early,” said City Engineer Lance Meyer. “We are very grateful to have had a good construction season this year, and we are thankful to the businesses, residents and public for their patience over the last 3 years. This huge endeavor now sets up our Main Street and the entire downtown district with all the public infrastructure they need to succeed for decades to come. If they haven’t already, people should come downtown to see how the upgrades and improvements have made this region even more attractive!”

Three separate general contractors were awarded the work downtown, Strata Corporation in 2015, Keller Paving and Landscaping in 2016 and Wagner Construction in 2017. Houston Engineering was the design engineer selected in 2013 and the construction management team throughout the project. An end-of-project ribbon cutting event is scheduled for early October, where the City will recognize the efforts of all those involved, including the North Dakota Congressional Delegation in securing federal funding that covered nearly half of the overall cost, as well as state and local partners who made various aspects of the project a reality.
