The City of Minot and Keller Paving, the Phase II contractor for work on the Downtown Infrastructure Improvements Project, agreed today to shift one block of work planned for 2016 to 2017. Shifting one block of North Main Street will allow the contractor to focus on the remaining 5-6 blocks of work and minimizes impact to upcoming annual activities held in downtown Minot.
“Recognizing that we are about four-and-half months into the construction season, with about two months left we want to take steps now to ensure that critical work is finished before winter sets in, and not start on too many new blocks without a high level of confidence that they can be finished this construction season,” said Lance Meyer, city engineer. “We also don’t want to be in the thick of construction near too many retail businesses during the late fall and early winter, when we could be impacting Downtown Christmas events.”
The work that was scheduled to be completed on North Main Street will be pushed back to early 2017, with a phased approach on key roads and major intersections that remain under the contract for this phase.
Upcoming key dates on the 2016 phase of the Downtown Infrastructure Improvements Project including the following (subject to change depending on weather):
- Monday, Sept. 12 – close one additional block of Second Avenue SW, from Broadway through the First Street SW intersection
- Friday, Sept. 16 – open up two blocks of First Street SE, from Burdick through the Third Avenue SE intersection
- Monday, Sept. 19 – close last block of Main Street South, from Burdick through the Third Avenue SE intersection
